Thriving museums reveal more about Hangzhou
Two exhibitions curated by the China National Silk Museum and the Museum of the Ruins of Kuahu Bridge in Hangzhou, Zhejiang province were listed among China’s Top 10 Best Museum Exhibitions in 2020 on May 18, which marked 45th International Museum Day, local media outlets reported.
“The Silk Road: Before and After Richthofen”, which was held at the China National Silk Museum from June 19 to Aug 23 last year, was a success. The exhibition showcased national treasures excavated along the ancient Silk Road and told stories about the cultural exchanges between China and countries along the ancient Silk Road.
According to Zhao Feng, curator of the museum, exhibitions themed on the Silk Road have been held for six years. A new edition is expected to open by the end of this June.
At the Museum of the Ruins of Kuahu Bridge, an exhibition themed on the culture of Kuahu Bridge, which represents one of the earliest civilizations in China, has drawn crowds of visitors since the museum was reopened to the public last September.
One highlight of the exhibitions is a canoe known as the “first canoe in China” that was buried for 8,000 years.
Aside from the aforementioned museums, Hangzhou is also home a wide range of top-rated thematic museums, such as Westlake Museum, China Knife, Scissors and Sword Museum, Chinese Fan Museum, China Umbrella Museum, and Hangzhou Arts and Crafts Museum.
