Black Eyed Peas to Perform for COVID Relief Benefit Concert for India
Asheville, NC – This Saturday, May 29th at 9:00am EST / 6:30pm IST hip hop legend Black Eyed Peas will perform live for the virtual benefit concert, To India With Love (#ToIndiaWithLove). The globally renowned band’s willingness to volunteer highlights the urgency of the #ToIndiaWithlove campaign.
Right now, India is second only to the U.S. in most critical COVID stats: New infections have risen to over 400,000 per day and the daily death toll has exceeded 4,100. According to the New York Times, India’s official tally of infections and deaths grossly understates the pandemic’s true effects.
The benefit event on Sunday kicks off #ToIndiaWithLove, a campaign designed to bring people together to raise resources and spread hope. Along with the Black Eyed Peas, other confirmed artists include: Deva Premal & Miten, MC YOGI, Ari Afsar, Jennifer Lee Snowden, Ali Stone, Cozmic, and Raye Zaragoza. 100% of funds after credit card fees will go directly to COVID relief efforts in India. The event will also feature live-streamed commentary from local organizers working tirelessly amidst supply and staff shortages. The event will include a meditation by global humanitarian Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and be hosted & moderated by actress/activist, Fagun Thakrar, and social-entrepreneur, Johann Berlin.
The event itself is a co-production of We & Goliath and the International Association of Human Values (IAHV). We & Goliath is a virtual event production and digital consulting firm, specialising in non-profit and for-purpose events. They have partnered with IAHV due in part to its broad network of 10,000+ volunteers that work in and help create local community COVID Care Centers around India.
COVID’s toll on India is not only astounding but difficult to curb. Basic measures like social distancing are hard to imagine in a country whose housing and transportation infrastructure struggle to keep apace with a bustling economy, population growth and social disparities.
In the U.S., social distancing is a universal COVID guideline. In India, it’s a privilege.
Compounding this is the global demand for vaccines. Although India is a leading global manufacturer of vaccines, the global economy has forced its hand in exporting more vaccines than it provides to its own population. Meanwhile, other essential supplies to COVID treatment, such as oxygen, are running out.
