8-year Old Girl is a Talented Rapper/ Budding social media star – writes performs music video voicing many children’s angst towards Zoom classrooms

Special effect filled music video starring 8 year old rap sensation, ‘Junior’ (daughter of rap icon, DMX) boldly expresses how many kids (and their parents) feel about having to attend constant zoom classes: They hate it.

As the nation and communities around the world grapple with the impact of Covid-19 on children’s education, this new offering right from the mouth and mind of a 3rd grader hit home and expresses through Hip – Hop and playful youth humor the angst and anxiety children are feeling in the face of virtual learning.

As President-Elect Biden aims to open schools in the first 100 days in office, and mixed results are being reported on the effectiveness of remote learning, young Junior offers the voice of those directly impacted to the mix. Watch video here.

Recent studies have found that distant and remote learning are detrimental to children, lifting up findings like:

All of the reasons too much screen time is unhealthy for kids are the same reasons kids shouldn’t be on Zoom all day for school: increased rates of obesity, sleep disturbance, and behavioral problems. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends no more than 2 hours of screen time per day and it would be prudent for school leaders to heed this advice by ensuring their students are not on video conference calls longer than 2 hours, especially as districts proceed with remote learning for entire student population…” – Forbes

Through this lens, not only is Junior’s song and music video timely- but it may also be the first time we are hearing directly from a child’s perspective. Junior pinned her verses and with lyrics like, “I’m sitting here in front of this screen, and I want to scream…”, we get not only a clear understanding, but a sad look into the reality of how young minds are grappling with remote learning amid the Covid 19 pandemic.

Junior is currently building out her audition and taping calendar for film and commercials. Certainly a dynamic young star in the making – who’s leaping off the porch with a bold message to get things started!
